Adelaide City Family Holidays

Bring the family

There’s always something going on in Adelaide, our festivals and unique attractions offer plenty of fun for the whole family.

Thousands watch the Christmas pageant each November, when dozens of spectacular floats and more than 900 performers glide through the Adelaide city centre.

If you’re here for the Santos Tour Down Under in January, take them to the Tour Village to get up close to the world of professional cycling.

Experience the Adelaide Zoo, home to two giant pandas. Cuddle a koala or feed a kangaroo at Cleland Wildlife Park. Ride Victor Harbor’s Horse Drawn Tram to Granite Island, home to little penguins. Pick strawberries in the Adelaide Hills.

Arts

Head to our “cultural boulevard”; North Terrace, where the South Australian Museum is home to the world’s largest collection of Aboriginal artefacts.

For thrill seekers

September is Royal Adelaide Show time, Australia’s second biggest horticultural show. The children will love the rides, sideshow games, animal exhibits and show bags. They’re full of toys and exciting treats. There is a spectacular fireworks display each night.

Catch the tram to Glenelg, our premier seaside destination, to go the Beachouse. It has Australia’s oldest carousel, three heated water slides, games and dodgem cars.

Parks and playgrounds

Elder Park on the banks of the River Torrens is a great place to relax. There’s plenty of grass to run around on and ducks to feed. If you want to go on the river, hire a paddle boat or hop on a “Popeye” river cruise boat.

Walk or cycle the Linear Park Trail to the Adelaide Zoo or cruise all the way to Henley Beach on the coast for coffee and ice cream.

Take a trip to Monarto Zoological Park. An hour up the South Eastern Freeway, Monarto is an open-range zoo with giraffes, cheetahs, lions and chimpanzees.

Visit the giant pandas

A visit to the Adelaide Zoo is a must. Situated next to the beautiful Adelaide Botanic Garden; Adelaide Zoo is home to Wang Wang and Funi, the southern hemisphere’s only giant pandas.

Adelaide – naturally good family fun.
